Library Fund Raising ...
Libraries Are Really Important !
When I was a professional fundraiser I did several capital
and annual campaigns for libraries and I always found that it was easier
to raise lots of money if you had some sort of fun project to make everybody
feel a part of the fundraising as well as working towards major gifts.
Making a cookbook was just such a project.
Using local history as a theme focuses interest on the library, of course,
but it also draws the whole community together.
Other library cookbook ideas are:
1. A Mystery Book Club Cookbook,
2. Literary Cookbooks,
3. Healthy Lifestyle Cookbooks, and
4. A Storybook Hour Cookbook with children’s drawings
I want to share a few heart-warming statistics that I learned
when working with libraries–
· libraries are the most trusted public institution
· there are more libraries than there are McDonalds (thank goodness)
· there are more children in summer reading programs than in little league baseball
· NICE!!!
So involve the Friends of the Library and create a cookbook
that promotes community spirit AND raises money.
